Answer:

8V and 4V respectively

Explanation:

Given the capacitance of two capacitors are 3uF and 6uF

Let potential on 3uF=xV

potential on 6uF=12-x

3x=6(12-x)

9x=72

x=8 on 3uF

12-8=4 on 6uF

Given:

2 capacitor of capacitance 3 microfarad and 6 micro farad are charged to a potential 12V each they are now connected to each other with the positive plate of one joined to the negative plate pf another

To find:

The potential difference across each will be?

Solution:

From given, we have,

2 capacitor of capacitance 3 microfarad and 6 microfarad are charged to a potential 12V each.

C1 = 3 μ F

C2 = 6 μ F

V1 = V2 = 12 V

The potential difference across each is given by,

V = (C1V1 - C2V2) / (C1 + C2)

V = (6 × 12 - 3 × 12) / (6 + 3)

V = (72 - 36) / 9

V = 36/9

∴ V = 4 V

Therefore, the potential difference across each will be 4 V.
