Solution:

On substituting x with 2 and y with 1 in the equation

x - 2y = 4, we get,

2 - 2(1) = 4

⇒ 2 - 2 = 4

⇒ 0 = 4

BUT

0 ≠ 4

∴ (2, 1) is not the correct solution to the equation x - 2y = 4.
