Power: The rate of doing work is called as power.

∅ The power spent by a source is measured as the amount of work done by the source in one second (or it is equal to the rate of doing work by the source).

∅ If work W is done is time t, then

⟶ Power (P) = Work done (W)/Time taken (t)

⟶ P = W/T

Thus power spent by a source depends on the following two factors:

➔ the amount of work done by the source, and

➔ the time taken by the source to do the said work.

Units of power:

》The S.I unit of power is watt, if 1 joule of work is done is 1 second, the power spent is said to be 1 watt.

》1 watt = 1 joule/1 second

1 watt = 1 J/s
