The sperm travels through the fallopian tube and penetrates the zona pellucida layer of the ovum (female egg) and fuses with it which forms zygote (fertilized egg).

The fusion of male gametes with a female gamete to form a zygote during the sexual reproduction is called Fertilisation.

ㅤIn human beings, Internal Fertilisation takes place. The sperms enter through vaginal passage during copulation. They travel upwards and reach the oviduct where they may encounter the egg. The sperm may fuse with the egg and form a zygote. The zygote gets implanted in the lining of uterus and starts to divide. The mother's body is designed to undertake the development of the child for which the uterus prepares itself every month to recieve and nurture the growing child.
