To check whether x= 1,-1 are the roots of the equation, let's apply factor theorem,

if x= 1,-1 are roots then their remainder should be zero.

hence,

x²+4x-5 = (1)²+4(1)-5 = 0

so 1 is a root,

then

x²+4x-5 = (-1)²+4(-1)-5 = 1-4-5 = -8 is not zero

so only 1 is a root and -1 is not a root of the equation.
