Total number of possible outcomes when 2 dice are rolled = 6 * 6

                                                                                          n(S)  = 36.

Let E be the event of getting a sum 4 = {1,3},{3,1},{2,2}

 n(E) = 3.

Therefore, required probability P(E) = n(E)/n(S)

                                                            = 3/36

                                                            = 1/12.

Hope this helps!
