During wet corrosion in an acidic environment hydrogen evolution occurs:

  • Wet corrosion occurs when a metal comes in contact with a conducting liquid.
  • It can be observed in a galvanic cell where corrosion of anode occurs due to its oxidation and reduction occurs at the cathode.
  • At the cathode, in the absence of oxygen in an acidic environment hydrogen ion formation occurs resulting in the evolution of hydrogen gas at the cathode.
  • The reaction which occurs at the cathode is as follows:

                          2H + 2e⁻→ H₂ ↑ ( reduction)

Thus, During wet corrosion in acidic  environment (3rd option) Hydrogen evolution occurs.
