⚀What is thermal expansion?
⭕Thermal expansion is the tendency of matter to change its shape, area, volume, and density in response to a change in temperature, usually not including phase transitions. Temperature is a monotonic function of the average molecular kinetic energy of a substance.
⚀Examples of thermal expansion:-
⭕The principle of thermal expansion is used in fixing iron rim with the wooden wheel firmly.
⭕ Rivets are used to hold steel plates together very tightly. A very hot rivet is pushed through the two plates and its end is hammered over. When the rivets cools down it pulls the two plates together very tightly.
⚀Applications of expansion are:-
⭕Liquids
⭕ Gases
