Brahmadeya (given to Brahmana) was tax free land gift either in form of single plot or whole villages donated to Brahmanas in the early medieval India. It was initially practiced by the ruling dynasties and was soon followed up by the chiefs, merchants, feudatories, etc.
Vellanvagai was land for non-Brahmans , peasant proprietors and others while as the Shalabhoga-was the land grants for the maintenance and management of schools. In Ancient India the king was the owner of all land. The scholars, priests, and sometimes officials were given land grants by the king.
shalabhoga was land for the maintenance of a school. devadana / tirunamattukkani was land gifted to temples. pallichchhandam was land donated to Jaina institutions.
