Given :-

Work done by the force = 1000 J

The displacement of the box = 5 m

To Find :-

The magnitude of force acting  on a box.

Analysis :-

Here we are given with the work done and the displacement of the body.

In order to find the force applied substitute the given values such that, work done is equal to the force applied multiplied by the displacement.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • w = Work
  • s = Displacement
  • f = Force

Using the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Work \ done=Force \times Displacement}}

Given that,

Work done (w) = 1000 J

Displacement (s) = 5 m

Substituting their values,

⇒ w = f × s

⇒ 1000 = f × 5

⇒ f = w/s

⇒ f = 1000/5

⇒ f = 200 N

Therefore, the magnitude of force acting  on a box is 200 N.

Answer:

Given :-

  • A box when 1000 J of work is done to displace it by 5 m.

To Find :-

  • What is the magnitude of force acting on a box.

Formula Used :-

\boxed{\bold{\large{W\: =\: F\: \times s}}}

where,

  • W = Work done
  • F = Force
  • s = Displacement

Solution :-

Given :

  • Work done (W) = 1000 J
  • Displacement (s) = 5 m

According to the question by using the formula we get,

1000 = F × 5

\sf\dfrac{\cancel{1000}}{\cancel{5}} = F

200 = F

F = 200 N

\therefore The magnitude of force acting on a box is 200 N .

Extra Information

Force :

  • Force is a push or pull of an object. A force can cause an object to accelerated, slow down, remain in place or change shape.
  • The S.I unit of force is Newton (N).
  • The C.G.S of force is dyne.

Displacement :

  • Displacement is defined as the change in position of an object.
  • It is an vector quantity.
  • The S.I unit of displacement is meter.
  • The C.G.S unit of displacement is centimetre-gram-second.
  • Displacement is denoted by 's'.
