Given :-

AB = AC = 5cm

BC = AE + EB = 8 cm

AE = 4cm

CE perpendicular to AB

Find :-

height (CE) = ?

Solution :-

by using Pythagoras theorem

(AC)^2 = (AE)^2 + (CE) ^2

( 5 )^2 = ( 4 )^2 + ( CE) ^2

25 = 16 + ( CE) ^2

(CE) ^2 = 25 - 16 = 9 cm

CE = 3cm

Area of an isosceles triangle

= 1/2 * base * height

= 1/2 * 8 * 3

= 12cm^2
