The given quadratic equation:

3x^2 - 4 x - 2 = 0

Here, a = 3, b = - 4 and c = - 2

We have to find, the discriminate of the quadratic equation and its nature of roots.

Solution:

∴ Discriminant, D = b^2 -4ac

= (-4)^2 -4(3)(-2)

= 16 + 24

= 40

∴ Discriminant, D = 40

D > 0, the roots are real and unequal.
