a) ZnCO3--->(heat) ZnO+ CO2.

b) 2ZnS + 3O2 --->2ZnO + 2SO2

c) 2Ag2O ----> 4Ag + O2

d) 2Al2O3 ----> 4Al + 3O2

e)Al(OH)3 →Al 2 O3 +water

The oxygen evolved at the anode escapes as a gas or reacts with the carbon anode. The anode is thus oxidized to carbon monoxide which either burns giving CO2  or escapes. Thus, anode has to be replaced as it is consumed periodically.
