Complete Question :

  • gravitational force on the surface of the moon is only 1/6 as strong as gravitational force on the earth . what is the weight in newton of 10 kg object on the moon and on the earth ?

Given :

  • gravitational force on the surface of the moon is only 1/6 as strong as gravitational force on the earth .

  • Mass of object = 10 kg

To Find :

  • The weight of object on moon and on the earth.

Solution :

C A S E (i) :

  • Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 × 1/6 = 9.8/6 m/s²
  • Mass of object (m) = 10 kg

Calculating the weight of the object on moon :

→ Weight = mass × acceleration

→ Weight = 10 × 9.8/6

→ Weight = 10 × 1.63

Weight = 16.3 N

The weight of the object on moon is 16.3 N.

C A S E (ii) :

  • Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s²
  • Mass of object (m) = 10 kg

Calculating the weight of the object on earth :

⊷ Weight = mass × acceleration

⊷ Weight = 10 × 9.8

Weight = 98 N

⛬ The weight of the object on earth is 98 N.
