Answer:
On the contrary, Akbar neither forced any Rajput ruler to enter into matrimonial alliance with him nor asked their princesses to accept Islam before marrying them. Besides, he honoured his wives, allowed them to follow their own religion, respected their Rajput relatives and gave them high offices in the state.

Answer:
- During his first foray into Rajputana, Akbar was reasonably tolerant. However, by 1566 he had got embittered by the treachery of his relatives and nobles and became ruthless.
- He insisted on complete loyalty. A ruler had to do a public display by bowing and kissing the hem of the Emperor’s surcoat and give his daughter in marriage. Those that didn’t their kingdoms were conquered and a pliable ruler put in place.
- Mewar refused to bow. In the siege of Chittor, once the fort was conquered, Akbar killed every inhabitant, mostly civilians, women and children. The sacred threads were collected and weighed 74 and half maunds. Mewar refused to surrender and was attacked six times unsuccessfully. Marwar, refused to surrender.
- The ruler, Rao Chandrasen, was dethroned and his brother made king. He led a resistance for years. Dhundhar (Jaipur) complied and prospered. Only with respect to Bundi did Akbar compromise. He did not insist on marriage.
- In 1972, Akbar held a Darbar in Nagaur where he re-confirmed loyalty. The Rajputs who displayed loyalty were suitably rewarded.
