The indigo planters in India were mainly Britishers who exploited native farmers by forcing them to farm indigo after which they bought it for cheap price and sold for high price and the major grievances for farmers was that they couldn't do any other farming because when you have cultivated Indigo then only indigo could be grown in future and no other cerals, vegetables and fruits.
