2) answer:
Ausable manage to make Max believe that there is a balcony attached to his room by telling that someone entered his room through the balcony earlier also. Ausable also told max that he had asked police to give him protection as he had some important papers with him. After listening ,Max became nervous and just wanted to escape from police and he belived Ausable. without noticing, he jumped out of the window and fell down. Ausable’s ability to think quickly and calmly in a situation of panic ,makes it convincing he is very calm and excellence in his thinking skills and acts quite quick to make such decisions.
3) answer:
Ausable had planed right from the beginning. He didn't let Max know about the presence of a balcony. His story seemed pretty much thought out. The knock on the door was a correct timing because he asked the waiter to bring a bottle of drink and two glasses. so, he was expecting the knock on the door and according to the plan ,ausable told Max that it was the police whom he had asked to check to make sure everything was alright. At the end, the calm with which he told Fowler, who even belived ausable's story and got terrified , that there was no police and that he had expected the waiter to come in with his order shows that he was not surprised by the sudden turn of events and Max’s turning up at his room. Such a detailed and well sucessful plan gives the impression that it was planned before and so he was prepared for it.
