It seemed a longer job than I had thought it was going
to be; but got the bag finished at last, and I sat on it and
strapped it.

1. Jerome ( the narrator) is 'I' in these lines. To Harris and George (his two friend's) he didn't say anything.
2. The speaker felt that he knew more about packing than any other person living.
3. The job took longer than expected as Jerome had to pack the bag for all three of them. George and Harris didn't help him at all. On top of it, he had to unpack and repack it over and over again for one reason or the other.
4. Sryy I am also having the same chapter this year but I don't know this answer...
Hopefully it would help you...
