2 identical metallic spheres p and q have charge on each as 6*10^-7 c. they are placed half meter away from each other. another identical sphere r having no initial charge is first touched with sphere p and then with q. sphere r is then withdrawn . find the charge on p and q.

Answer:p=\frac{Q}{2} , q=\frac{3Q}{4}

Explanation:

Suppose Q is the charge on sphere p and q

When sphere r is touched with p then the whole charge is distributed among p and r

Final charge after first touch=\frac{Q+0}{2}=\frac{Q}{2}

After this sphere r is touched with sphere q

After charge distribution =\dfrac{\frac{Q}{2}+Q}{2}=\frac{3Q}{4}

So after the touches sphere p has \frac{Q}{2}=3\times10^{-7}\ C charge and

sphere q has \frac{3Q}{4}=4.5\times 10^{-7}\ C
