Answer :

a + b = 10

Solution :

  • Given : a - b = 6 , ab = 16
  • To find : a + b = ?

.

We have ;

a - b = 6

Squaring both sides , we get ;

=> (a - b)² = 6²

=> a² + b² - 2ab = 36

=> a² + b² - 2•16 = 36

=> a² + b² - 32 = 36

=> a² + b² = 36 + 32

=> a² + b² = 68

Now ,

=> (a + b)² = a² + b² + 2ab

=> (a + b)² = 68 + 2•16

=> (a + b)² = 68 + 32

=> (a + b)² = 100

=> (a + b) = √100

=> a + b = 10

Hence ,

a + b = 10
