Given :- If the price of an article increases by 49% and the sale of that article decreases by 21%, then what is the

approximate effect on collection ?

A) 15% decrease

B) 18% increase

C) 21% decrease

D) 28% increase

Solution :-

Let us assume that, Price of the article is Rs.100 and total 100 articles were sold .

so,

→ Price * sales = collection. .

→ 100 * 100 = 10000

now,

→ New Price = 49% inc. = (149 * 100)/100 = Rs.149 .

→ New sale = 21% dec. = (79 * 100) / 100 = 79 articles .

then,

→ New collection = 149 * 79 = Rs.11,771

therefore,

→ Increased collection = 11771 - 10000 = Rs.1771 .

hence,

→ % inc. collection = (1771 * 100)/10000 = (1771/100) = 17.71 ≈ 18% . (B) (Ans.)

Given : price of an article increases by 49% and

the sale of that article decreases by 21%,

To Find :  what is the approximate effect on collection?

A) 15% decrease

B) 18% increase

C) 21% decrease

D) 28% increase

Solution:

Price of an article = P

sale = S

Collection = PS

price of an article increases by 49%

= P  + (49/100)P

= 1.49P

sale of that article decreases by 21%,

= S - (21/100)S

= 0.79S

Collection = 1.49P * 0.79S

= 1.1771PS

increase in collection = 1.1771PS - PS

= 0.1771 PS

% increase = (0.1771PS/PS) * 100  = 17.71 %

Hence approx 18 % increase in collection
