Solution -

Let the ratio of corresponding sides of similar triangles is S1:S2 = 3:5

since the triangles are similar then

 \frac{a1}{a2}  = ( \frac{s1}{s2} ) ^{2}  = ( \frac{3}{2} )^{2}  =  \frac{9}{16}

∴ the ratio of the area is 9:16
