LET NUMERATOR BE x

LET DENOMINATOR BE y

x + 1/y - 1 = 1

x - y = -2

x = 2-y        -------1

x/ y + 1  =  1/2

2x - y = 1     ---------2

SUBSTITUTE 1 IN 2

2(2-y) - y = 1

4 - 2y - y = 1

4 - y = 1

y = 4 - 1

y = 3

NOW, SUBSTITUTE y IN 1

x = 2 - 3

x = -1

THEREFORE, x = -1

                      y = 3
