SOLUTION

GIVEN

x and y are inversely proportional

TO DETERMINE

The missing value of x.

x : ? 30

y : 2 5

EVALUATION

Here it is given that x and y are inversely proportional

 \displaystyle \sf{ \therefore \: x \propto \:  \frac{1}{y} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: x  =  \:  \frac{k}{y} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: x  y=  k} \:  \: ....(1)

Where k is a non zero real number

Now it is given that x = 30 when y = 5

From Equation (1) we get

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 30 \times 5 = k}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies  k = 150}

So the equation (1) becomes

 \displaystyle \sf{ xy = 150}

Now when y = 2 we get from above

 \displaystyle \sf{ \: 2x = 150}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: x= 75}

Hence the required value of x is 75
