Answer:

Without a compass, you will see when the sun is highest in the sky and know where south is. Then, at night or, during an overcast day, you will see the swell and waves and keep the correct angle.

If I am stuck in the middle of the sea without a compass the only way to find my way is to watch the direction where the sun or the star is.

Techniques to be followed if we don't have a compass while sailing in a boat:

  • In the morning time the sun and the horizon were used to navigate the landmarks. The rising and setting sun shows the east and west directions, so according to this, I can navigate in the morning.
  • At night time the stars, the moon, and the horizon were used to navigate. The stars will move from east to west and this can help me to navigate.
  • An early navigation technique is to have more knowledge about the eclipses, constellations, and the movement of the moon.
