area of triangle = 1/2 × base × altitude

1st case

base = BC = 24

altitude = AD = 14

= 1/2 × 24 × 14

= 12 × 14

= 168

2nd case

base = AC = 35

altitude = BE = a

area = 168

168 = 1/2 × 35 × a

a = (168 × 2) ÷ 35

a = 336 ÷ 35

a = 9.6

altitude BE = 9.6
