Yeast lives on sugar. In dough yeast decomposes sugars into Carbon Dioxide and Alcohol. The Carbon Dioxide comes out and makes the dough rise.

Answer:

for yeast to live

Step-by-step explanation

if there is no sugar then the yeast won't be able to live. So if it doesn't live it can breathe with results in expansion of the dough.
