The given equation is

(P+aV2)(V−b)=RT(P+aV2)(V-b)=RT As pressure can be added only to pressure therefore, a/V2a/V2 represents pressure P

i.e.,aV2=Pi.e.,aV2=P

or a=PV2=(ML−1T−2(L3)2)a=PV2=(ML-1T-2(L3)2)

=[M1L5T−2]=[M1L5T-2]

Again, from volume V, we can subtract only

the volume. Therefore, b must be representing

volume only i.e., b=V=[L3]=[M0L3T0]b=V=[L3]=[M0L3T0]
