2. In the evening the thadow of an object h very long due to the low
position of the sun. A 20 m high lamp post mares a 99 m long shadow.
What is the distance from the top of the pole to the top of its shadow
A. 97 m

Length of the pole=20m

Length of the shadow= 99m

So it would give us a triangle as shown in the figure.

By Pythagoras theorem

AB^2= BC^2 +AC^2

AB^2 = 99^2 + 20^2

AB^2 = 9801 + 400

AB^2 = 10201

AB= √10201

AB = 101

• The distance between the tip of the pole and tip of the shadow is 101 metre
