Distance covered between 3s to 7s is (a) 28 metres.

What is velocity?

Velocity is the rate of change in position of a body with respect to time. It is a vector quantity which means it has magnitude as well as direction.

What is distance?

Distance is the total path covered by the body in the given time interval. It is a scalar quantity which means it gives the magnitude of displacement of the body.

What is the relation between velocity, distance and time?

  • Velocity is the distance per unit time.
  • Velocity = displacement/time
  • Velocity is given in metre/second, distance is given in metre and time is expressed in seconds.

Calculation:

In the given figure, the area under the velocity-time curve gives the total distance covered by the body.

From the figure below, the area covered by the slope curve from time= 3 seconds to 7 seconds will give the distance covered by the body from 3s to 7s.

  • So, distance covered between 3s to 7s = Area of AQPB
  • AQPB is a trapezium and its area = 1/2*(QA+PB)*AB = 1/2*(4+10)*4 = 14*2 = 28 metre.

Answer:

Therefore, distance covered between 3s to 7s is (a) 28 metres.
