it happens in 2 situations :

1)when the body has not change its position, i.e. the distance travelled is zero                

2)and when the body is moving in straight line without changing its direction

Hi,

Distance is the length of path transversed by an object.

Displacement is the shortest path between source and destination.

Distance is a scalar quantity and Displacement is a vector quantity.

DISTANCE AND MAGNITUDE OF DISPLACEMENT WILL BE EQUAL when an object is tavelling in a straight path that is rectilinear path.
