2 L of hydrogen and 2.5 L of chlorine are allowed react in diffused light. Write the volume composition of the component gases after reaction.

key answer is
volume of mixture = 4.5 L
volume of unreacted cl2 = 0.5L
volume of hcl produced = 4L

Explanation:

................H2 + Cl2 ---------> 2HCl

initally 2L 2.5L .............0L

1 mole H2 react with 1mole Cl2 to form 2 mole HCl

=> 1L H2 react with 1L Cl2 to form 2L HCl

=> 2L H2 will react with 2L Cl2 to form (2×2)L HCl

=> 4L HCl is produced

Cl2 left = (2.5-2) = 0.5L

volume of mixture = 4+0.5 = 4.5L
