If two point masses m 1 , m 2 separated by a distance r and F is the force of gravitational attraction between the two point masses, then according to Newton's law of gravitation, F = G m 1 m 2 r 2 . G is the gravitational constant. Force is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
