First,
The process of replenishing nutrients in the soil is known as "Manuring".
⭐ "Manuring" is also defined as the process/method used to maintain the fertility of soil [ maintain nutritional value of soil ].
⏩ As we know that crops take nutrients from the soil for their proper growth. If farmers continue to grow the same crop year after year in the same field, the yield gradually decreases. This is because the same plants consume nutrients from the soil and make it infertile.
So, to replenish the fertility of soil, farmers follow different methods :-
➡ Field fallow : The agricultural land is left uncultivated for one or more seasons. Dead animals and plants accumulate on land and are decomposed by microbes. In this way, nutrients are replenished in the soil.
➡ Crop rotation : Some crops like wheat and rice use a lots of nitrogen of the soil. The lost nitrogen can be easily replenished in the soil by growing one leguminous crops between two successive crops.
➡ Manures : Wastes of animals and plants can be used as manure to replenish the nutrient deficient soil. Manures not only increases the nutrients, but also enhances the water holding capacity of the soil.
➡ Fertilisers : They are the chemical substances rich in specific nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
