INTRODUCTION-   Introduce the term ‘music’. What is it? Music refers to sounds combined in a systematic manner to produce a pleasant auditory experience.

RELEVANCE- Music is an important part of our lives. We turn to music when we need to pray (hymns and devotional songs), when we need to express our emotions, when we simply wish to relax, as a means of recreation and as an accompaniment to many other activities like dancing and exercising.

IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC:

1.      Improves aesthetic sense- Music is considered an art form and hence helps hone the aesthetic sense. Cultured people have an interest in music, while uncultured beings, like cattle, are not interested in music.

2.      Unites people- Music is known to bring people together. For instance, renowned Indian singers and musicians like A.R.Rehman for instance, have a fan following across international boundaries. It brings more acceptance.

3.      Adds to people’s happiness- Music has the power to improve people’s state of being. It can help uplift people’s moods. Scientifically speaking, music has the ability to trigger the secretion of hormones that make people happy.

4.      Employment- Music has evolved into an industry in itself. There are millions of people who find their livelihood through music- whether they are musicians, instrument makers, singers, dancers, or those involved in recording and marketing music. So, it is an important part of the economy as well.

MODERN TRENDS:

The music industry has witnessed many trends. The trend that is both helping and plaguing the music industry these days is the digitalization of music. It helps do away with any unnecessary nuances, and helps add extra effects. However, with budding artists banking on software and machines more than ever, it is difficult to get ‘authentic’ music that is free from any manipulations.

CONCLUSION:

To a new born, the sound of the rattle is music enough, while to the authentic pianist, Beethoven’s compositions are the best. Everyone enjoys music of one kind or another.
