Ladies and gentlemen, as a proud citizen of a great country, I always think of what Abraham Lincoln and Jawaharlal Nehru spoke of; every moment of the waking period of every day I wonder what more one can do for one's country, rather than constantly expecting some benefit coming my way.

Firstly, one ought to be a law-abiding citizen and lead by example at every step. One must also learn to protest if he or she encounters some wrong doing. One must help the weak, the infirm and the old in every possible way. One must ensure that the needy in one's locality do not remain unfed and unclothed. It is also necessary to curb wastage; I'd like to propagate against wastage of electric power, food and water.

There are certain fundamental rights enshrined in our constitution. I'd try to prevent their misuse by my fellow citizens in my locality.

I'd also like to take up matters of public importance with the Government of the day and, if necessary, file public interest litigations in our law courts to ensure my fellow citizens get their due.

Last, but not the least,I would try to cleanse the political system in my locality, by ensuring some sanity, honesty and decency is infused with my personal, untiring effort. If required, I would even go to the extent of filing my nomination for the local panchayat or municipal election, as a first step to cleaning up the administrative machinery.

Individuals are for the most part considerably more aware of their rights than they are of their obligations, yet rights and duties resemble the front and turn around side of a coin—the one surmises the other.

The Constitution of India provides for its national's six underlying rights which are gone for conquering a portion of the financial and social deficiencies of pre-autonomous India, and at building up a genuinely equitable society where ethnic and religious minorities are completely ensured as well as managed the chance to succeed.

1. The right to equality,

2. The right to freedom,

3. The right against misuse,

4. The right to freedom of religion,

5. Social and educational rights,

6. The right to structural or constitutional cures.
