Given : Number of moles, n = 2, Intial volume, Vi = 1L, Final volume, Vf = 10L and Temperature, T = 227 °C = 227 + 273 = 500K

To find : Work done

Solution : Given that temperature is constant, we can say that process is isothermal

For isothermal process, ∆T = 0

• Work done in the isothermal process is given by

W = nRT log(Vf \div Vi)

W = 2×R×500×2.303×log10

= 1000×2.303×R

• W = 2303R

Hence, the required work done is 2303R
