The work done by the ideal gas is –1396KJ

Given:

Number of moles of ideal gas,n= 2 moles

P1 , Pressure before expansion=4atm

P2, Pressure after expansion= 3 atm

T, Temperature=300K

Find :

Calculate the work done by ideal gas.

Solution:

Formula used:

 \:  \:  \:W=–nRTln \times \frac{p1}{p2}

 w = - 2 \times 8.31 \times 300ln \times \frac{4}{3}

W=–2 x 8.31 x 300 x 0.28

w= –1396KJ

Hence the work done by the ideal gas is –1396KJ
