Akbar was the third ruler of the Mughal empire. He was very liberal in his policies. He founded a new religion in 1581 and named it DIn-i-Ilahi. After conquering the rulers, he was highly successful in gaining their loyalty and thus he could be successful in the long run. He abolished the poll tax on non-Muslims and encouraged translations of Hindu literature and organizing Hindu festivals. He was a great patron of art, architecture, literature even after being an illiterate. These were some of the reasons why he is considered a great ruler.
