On the basis of the type of food they eat, animals are classified into three main types :

 \\

\green{\maltese}~~\pmb{\sf \underline{\orange{Herbivores:}}}

A herbivore is an animal that consumes only plant materials.

  • Example : Cow, Sheep, Kangaroo etc.

  • Adaptations for eating : Herbivores have big front teeth called incisors which are used to cut and grasp the plants. They even have molars in the back to grind the plant material.

 \\

\green{\maltese}~~\pmb{\sf \underline{\orange{Carnivores:}}}

A carnivore is an animal that consumes only meat and flesh of other organisms.

  • Example : Lion, Tiger etc.

  • Adaptations for eating : Carnivores have sharp canines and big molars to tear the meat.

 \\

\green{\maltese}~~\pmb{\sf{\underline{\orange{Omnivore:}}}}

An omnivore is an animal that consumes both plant products and flesh and meat of other organisms.

  • Example : Humans, Bear etc.

  • Adaptations for eating : Since omnivores eat a wide variety of food, they even have different types of teeth. They have incisors in front for cutting, canines for cutting and tearing and then even molars for grinding the food.
