The incidents at Deoli station can be narrated as follows from the point of view of the basket-seller.
- The basket seller must have been a native of Deoli and thus sold baskets at the railway station.
- She was selling baskets when a train going toward Dehradun stopped at the station.
- A boy about her age exited the train and gave her an intent look. She tried to act nonchalant but their eyes met.
- She felt an unusual attraction towards him, a feeling which told her to try and take a closer look at him and talk to him.
- She saw him make his way to the tea stall. Not able to control her emotions she too made her way toward the tea stall under the pretense of selling baskets.
- There was some awkwardness and after some hesitation, the boy bought a basket from her.
- But their conversation was cut short by the clanging of the bell by the station master.
- She met the boy again a little while later when he was on the train returning from Dehradun. She met him like an old friend, their previous meeting still crystal clear in her mind.
- The boy then told her he would come back for her from Delhi, she too replied that she would wait for him there.
