The pebble sink in the water because the density of the pebble is more than that of the water.

Explanation:

  • if we use cork instead of pebble then the cork will not sink in water because the density of water is less than that of the pebble. Hence the experiment reason will not be fulfilled
  • instead of dropping many small pables efficiently drop a stone into the water which is of bigger size then maybe it would not be of the shape that would fall to the bottom of the container. In there will not be considerable rise in the water level
  • any solid which does not dissolve in water and has the density more than that of water can be used for this experiment

Thirsty Crow

Explanation:

  • Pebble sank in the water because pebble is more dense than water.
  • The cork has less density than water so it will float on the water.
  • It will not be possible for the crow to lift one big stone, if he manages to  somehow lift it then two things can happen, first either it will land in the pot and displace too much water at once or it will break the pot.
  • The big stone would lift too much water that will come out of the pot at once and the crow will not be able to drink it, while when he dropped pebbles it slowly raised the water up and the crow was able to drink easily.
  • Another object that crow can drop is news paper, when the newspaper is dropped it will absorb water rather than lifting it upwards.
