(a) Apparent depth = real depth / refractive index

So we find that Real depth ∝ apparent depth

At A, the apparent depth is equal to real depth because the observer is perpendicularly to the point A.

So apparent depth is as follows:

OC > OB > OA

(b) Apparent depth is inversely proportional to the refractive index. So the higher the refractive index of the medium, the lower the apparent depth.

So,  the effect on apparent depth for oblique viewing when refractive index of the medium is increased, the rays will bend from its original path at the boundary of separation of the two media. This process is called refraction.
