Let the original population be 'x'

x - (2% of x + 14% of ((100-2)% of x))= 2107

x-((2÷100)x+(14÷100)((98÷100)x))=2107

x-((2x÷100)+(7÷50)(98x÷100))=2107

x-((x÷50)+(7÷50)(49x÷50))=2107

x-((x÷50)+(343x÷2500))=2107

x-((50x÷2500)+(343x÷2500))=2107

x-((50x+343x)÷2500)=2107

x-(393x÷2500)=2107

(2500x-393x)÷2500=2107

2107x÷2500=2107

2107x=2107×2500

x=(2107×2500)÷2107

x=2500

Therefore Original population of town was 2,500.
