Given:

One litre of milk fills two identical bottles.

A quarter  of the milk in one bottle is used to make a cup of tea.

To find:

(i) How much milk was used to make tea?

(ii) How many  millilitres?

Solution:

(i). Finding the amount of milk used to make tea:

No. of identical bottles filled with 1 L litre of milk = 2

∴ The amount of milk in each bottle = \frac{1}{2} \:L

A quarter of milk in one bottle is used to make tea

i.e., The amount of milk used from one of the bottles = \frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{2} = \bold{\frac{1}{8} \:L}

Thus, \underline{\bold{\frac{1}{8}\:L }} of the milk was used to make tea.

(ii). Finding the amount of milk in millilitres:

We know,

\boxed{\bold{1\: L = 1000\: ml}}

∴ The amount of milk (in millilitres) used to make tea is,

= \frac{1}{8} \times 1000

= \bold{125\:ml}

Thus, 125 ml of milk was used from one of the bottles to make tea.
