Given :–

  • One number is three times another.
  • If larger number is subtracted from 60, then the result is 5 less than the smaller number which is subtracted from 55.

To Find :–

  • The two numbers.

Solution :–

Let, the one number be x.

And the other number be 3x.

According to the question,

60 is subtracted from larger number (other number '3x') and 55 is subtracted from smaller number (one number 'x') and it's result is less than the product of the other number.

⟹ 60 – 3x = (55 – x) – 5

⟹ 60 – 3x = 55 – x – 5

⟹ 60 – 3x = 55 – 5 – x

⟹ 60 – 3x = 50 – x

⟹ 60 – 50 = 3x – x

⟹ 10 = 2x

 \dfrac{\cancel{10}}{\cancel2}

⟹ 5 = x

  • x = 5

Hence,

The numbers are:

  1. One number = x = 5.
  2. Other number = 3x = 3 × 5 = 15.
