2. Open end mercury manometer is connected to a gas
chamber containing gas at a pressure of 138 bar. The
barometric pressure is 750 mm Hg. Mercury level in
the arm connected to gas chamber stands at 113 cm.
What is the reading in open arm of the manometer ?

Answer:

Explanation:

Gas pressure =1.38 bar

barometric pressure =750

Arm connected to gas chamber reads 11.3 cm

Excess pressure = open arm reading - 11.3

= x-11.3 cm =(x-11.3)×10mm

Total pressure of gas = 750 + (x-11.3)×10 mm

Now 760 mm pressure =1 bar

So 1.38 bar = 1.38×760=1048.8mm

1048.8= 750+(x-11.3)×10

x=(1048.8-750+113)/10

=310.1mm

Reading in open atm of manometer =310.1mm

here is your answer

I hope you find this answer correct

Thank you
