Aminoethane (ethylamine) is obtained from acetaldehyde (ethanal) is by the following means -

• So, we have to obtain our end product i.e ethylamine and the reactant given is ethanal .

• From here we can see that the no. of carbon are same ,the only thing that changed is conversion of aldehyde group to amine group .

• So, as we know reduction of aldehyde will give us alcohol which further react with ammonia to form the aminoethane.

• So, the reducing agent will be used is LiAlH4 and ammonia will react to alcohol in the presence of Al2O3.

• So, the conversion is -

• CH3CHO + LiAlH4—> CH3CH2OH
