let the cost of pencil be x and the cost of pen be y

therefore,

2x+3y = 8.3(3)

3x+2y =7(2)

6x+9y=24.9

6x+4y=14

(-). 5y = 10.9

y=10.9/5

x=2.18

substitute y=2.18in equation 2

3x+2(2.18)=14

3x+4.36=14

3x =14-4.36

3x =9.64

x= 9.64/3

x=3.213

therefore the cost of 5x and 5y is,

5*3.213+5*4.36

=16.065+21.8

=37.865
