This is a problem of inverse variation which means a mathematical relationship between two variables which can be expressed by an equation in which the product of two variables is constant.

Given

2 People can plough in 6 hours

Find

How much time it would take for 3 people to plough the same field

Solution

Let the time taken by 3 people to plough b x hrs

As 2 people plough in 6 hrs which means = 2*6

3 people plough in x hrs which means  = 3*x  

So

3 * x = 2 * 6

3x = 12

x = 4

The time taken by 3 people to plough the field is 4 hrs.
